nourishment for wildlife too
We host quite a bit of wildlife in our yard but were surprised when a bobcat recently stopped by for a nap. I am excited about the National Wildlife Federation certification we just received - check them out at www.nwf.org

it's caprese salad time
Now you see the difference between my sister's quality photos and my attempt from the cell phone. Oh well.
My Dad's garden provided these tomatoes; I also get wonderful varieties from the local Farmers Markets. Just mix up some sliced or diced tomatoes, sliced fresh mozzarella cheese, with a touch of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, and sliced fresh basil leaves. Sometimes I add some chopped garlic. This makes a tasty late summer salad (this one is garnished with kalamata olives and anchovies) - I have also served it over grilled zucchini slices. You can also pile it on toasted baguette slices for an appetizer, or mix with freshly cooked pasta for an entree.

back home
I am glad to be able to unpack after 9 days on the road. I loved walking around Chinatown in Oakland, CA where my sister captured this shot of the delivery of live fish to the markets.

birthday dinner
I made this fab shrimp and scallop salad to celebrate my Mom's birthday. So great to have fresh seafood while at the seashore.
cookbook in progress
As many of you know, I have been writing a cookbook (for many years!). It is getting close to being publishing-ready, so stay tuned. Check out this preview of the terrific photos that my sister is taking for the book.
